Design decides how the kitchen will feel to work in

Most of what makes a commercial kitchen good or exhausting is decided before anything is installed — in where things sit relative to each other, and how far someone has to walk during a busy service.

Our design service plans that layout with you. We work from your menu, the number of people who will be working in the space, and the room you actually have, then place the equipment so the kitchen runs in a sensible sequence rather than a series of detours.

It is a planning service, not a drafting exercise. The point is a layout you and your chefs agree is right, arrived at while changing it still costs nothing.

What we plan

  • Layout planning

Where each section of the kitchen sits, and how the space divides between preparation, cooking, service, storage and warewashing.

  • Kitchen workflow

The path food and staff take through a service, so the busy stations are not fighting each other for the same floor space.

  • Equipment placement

What goes where, at what size, and what it needs beside it — bench space, landing space, extraction, and access to a sink.

  • Practical use of space

Getting a full kitchen into a tenancy that looks too small for one is the most common thing we are asked to solve. Where nothing off the shelf fits, custom stainless steel fabrication is an option.

  • Cold chain planning

Where refrigeration and cool rooms sit relative to deliveries, preparation and service.

  • Warewashing and returns

The direction dirty crockery travels, which is the part most often left until last and then has nowhere to go. See our warewashing range.

How the design process runs

  1. Tell us about the venue

The space, the menu you are planning, how many will be working in it and what is already decided. Send a floor plan if you have one.

  2. Consultation

We talk it through, and visit the site where that helps. The initial consultation and quote are free.

  3. First layout

We propose a layout and an equipment list, and explain why things are placed where they are, so you can argue with it.

  4. Review and adjust

You and your chefs mark it up. We revise. This is the stage worth spending time on, because changes here are free.

  5. Agreed plan

You end up with a layout and an equipment list you have signed off, ready to move into supply and installation.

Working with your team

Plenty of projects already have a builder, a shopfitter or an architect involved before they reach us. That is straightforward: we can design the kitchen scope to work alongside their drawings, and coordinate with them directly rather than through you.

We also work the other way around, taking a layout your team has already produced and telling you honestly whether the equipment will fit, what it will need in services, and what we would change.

On compliance, we design with Australian commercial kitchen requirements in mind — ventilation, drainage and food safety among them. Approval pathways vary by council and by venue type, so tell us what your project needs and we will confirm what we can provide before you commit to anything.
